Objectives

The objective of this course is to introduce the operation of companies and introduce important concepts of management and strategy.

Management is the discipline that studies the optimization of business operations, for more than a century a significant amount of knowledge has accumulated to optimize the realization of industrial or human projects. The aim of this course is to introduce engineering students to this universe to make them aware that the organization of a project is just as important as its technical dimension to bring it to fruition.

Using concrete examples from the history of industry or economic news, we will review the major theories that describe and understand how businesses operate today.

Description

This course is designed around 4 main parts:

  1.   What is a company and a market?
  2. What are the different functions of management and the different forms of managerial organizations?
  3. Introduction to the theories of organizations: Acting on people and structures
  4. Human Resources, Marketing, Strategy: An overview
